JOB POSTING – POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW

The interdisciplinary Centre for Ethics at the University of Toronto(C4E) invites applications for one postdoctoral fellowship during the 2025-26 academic year. The fellowship is renewable to a second year pending budget approval and an internal evaluation.

Area of Research:  We welcome candidates from diverse disciplinary backgrounds including, but not limited to, philosophy, law, and political science to conduct research that furthers C4E’s mission as an interdisciplinary centre aimed at advancing research and teaching in the field of ethics, broadly defined, by bringing together the theoretical and practical knowledge of diverse scholars, students, public servants and social leaders in order to increase understanding of the ethical dimensions of individual, social, and political life.

Please consult our website to get a sense of the variety of projects and activities at the Centre. Recent C4E events have drawn speakers and participants from a wide range of disciplines.

Description of duties: Under the direction of the Director, Centre for Ethics, the successful candidate will conduct research, help to develop an interdisciplinary ethics community across campus, and help to foster public discourse on issues of ethical import by facilitating and participating in C4E events, activities, and projects. The successful candidate will also be expected to teach one 0.5 full-course equivalents (FCE). The course taught by the Centre for Ethics post-doctoral fellow is our fourth-year seminar, a research course aimed at our undergraduate fellows. Teaching will be covered by the terms of the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 Collective Agreement.

Salary: $60,366.55 per year ($50,000.00 Postdoc Salary + $10,366.55 for 0.5 FCE Teaching)
Please note that should the minimum rates stipulated in the collective agreement be higher than rates stated in this posting, the minimum rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

More teaching might be available, at a per course basis, according to the terms of the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 Collective Agreement.

Required qualifications: Applicants must have completed all requirements for their doctorate by July 31, 2025. Candidates must also be no more than 5 years from the awarding of their degree.

The normal hours of work are 40 hours per week for a full-time postdoctoral fellow (pro-rated for those holding a partial appointment) recognizing that the needs of the employee’s research and training and the needs of the supervisor’s research program may require flexibility in the performance of the employee’s duties and hours of work.

Employment as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Toronto is covered by the terms of the CUPE 3902 Unit 5 Collective Agreement.
