Sareh Pouryousefi

GRADUATE ASSOCIATE, 2012- | DEPARTMENT OF PHILOSOPHY

PhD Candidate, Department of Philosophy, University of Toronto

Sareh’s dissertation explores the essence of professionalization and underscores the relevance of professional ethics for the debates over the role of business in society. Professions and professional associations are an important (though underappreciated) topic in business ethics, because even though they are private economic entities, professions have historically been portrayed by some as ethically motivated. Our everyday moral sensibilities are fundamentally intertwined with our professional identities. Viewing managers as professionals thus has far-reaching implications for defining managerial moral obligations towards the firm and towards society in general.

Sareh’s area of specialization is business ethics. Her broader interests include political philosophy and applied ethics.

Sareh specialized in Logic for her B.A. in Philosophy at Simon Fraser University, and has an M.A. in International Relations and Philosophy from the Munk Centre for International Studies at the University of Toronto. She is a member of the Canadian Business Ethics Research Network, and the Transatlantic Doctoral Academy on Corporate Responsibility. She has worked as a consultant at EthicScan, a Toronto-based corporate social responsibility research house.

Sareh served as a Graduate Tribune at the Centre for Ethics in 2011-2012, along with Abe Singer and Igor Shoikhedbrod
