Xavier Landes

Xavier Landes’ fields of interests are twofold: political philosophy and philosophy of economics. More precisely, he is working on the following topics: multiculturalism, contemporary liberalisms, moral justifications of markets and of state regulations. He was invited several times as a researcher at the Latvian Centre for Human Rights in Riga, Latvia. During his numerous stays, he worked on topics like minority rights in post-soviet area and multicultural education in Latvia. The title of his thesis is “Libéralisme, républicanisme et minorities”. His post-doctoral research project is titled “État, marché et préférences interdépendantes negatives”.

Xavier taught French language, economics and philosophy at the secondary level for a private institution in France from 2003 to 2004, and ethics at Université de Montréal from 2005 to 2007. He organized several events, as the International Conference “Ethics in Democracy” in Riga and is a regular contributor to the website politika.lv. Several articles are in-progress: “Is Culture a Public Good?” and another on multicultural education. He gave several papers and participated in numerous conferences in Canada, France, Latvia and Slovakia.

After having graduated in economics, political sciences and philosophy, Xavier did his Ph.D. at Université de Montréal.
