Sarah Clark Miller

Assistant Professor of Philosophy, University of Memphis.

Professor Miller teaches in the areas of ethical theory, the history of moral philosophy, feminist theory, social and political philosophy and applied ethics. In recent semesters she has offered graduate seminars on agency and well-being, Kant’s moral philosophy, and feminist ethical, social and political theory, as well as undergraduate courses on ethics, globalization and applied ethics.

Miller is the author of numerous articles on ethical theory and feminist philosophy. Her work has focused on the themes of need and obligation, global ethics, Kant’s duty of beneficence, and biomedical ethics. She serves as an Assistant Editor of The Southern Journal of Philosophy. At present she is completing a book on global ethics entitled, Global Necessities: Responsibility, Care and Freedom.

Miller received her M.A. and Ph.D. in Philosophy from the State University of New York at Stony Brook and her B.A. in Philosophy and Modern Dance from Haverford College. She was a Visiting Scholar in the Department of Philosophy at the Philipps-Universitét Marburg (2001-02) and a Max Kade Foundation Research Fellow (2000-01).
