Erica Frederiksen is currently writing a dissertation which investigates the normative and institutional implications of the recent turn to “restorative justice” in three distinct practical domains: in contexts of democratic transition following periods of authoritarian rule, in movements for criminal justice reform within established democracies and in attempts to redress historical injustice, particularly as concerns indigenous peoples. More specifically, the project seeks to evaluate the potential of restorative justice to furnish conceptual and practical tools for designing more inclusive and equitable democratic institutions tailored to heterogeneous societies. Her research interests include contemporary political theory, democratic theory, ethics and multiculturalism.
Frederiksen received her M.A. in Political Science from the University of Toronto and holds a Joint Honours B.A. in Philosophy and Political Science from McGill University.
