Graduate Associate, 2009- | Department of English
Timothy Harrison is a Ph.D.U. student based in the Department of English and the collaborative program in Book History and Print Culture. His current research investigates the effects of the spread of communication technologies and their attendant cognitive skills on the way the world was understood, perceived, and experienced in the Northern Atlantic world in the late Middle Ages and Renaissance. By triangulating the histories of writing technologies, human cognitive capacities, and attitudes towards the natural world, Timothy seeks to excavate the deep cultural underpinnings of the current ecological crisis. He also hopes to revitalize debates about ecological ethics by using history to dust off ostensibly outmoded ways of understanding the relationship between self and world.
Timothy holds a B.A. from the University of Toronto, where he was awarded the Governor General’s Silver Medal. His doctoral work is supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
