Jeffrey is currently writing a dissertation on the moral and political philosophy of John Rawls. It attempts to rebut communitarian and cosmopolitan critiques of Rawls using the recently published Lectures on the History of Moral Philosophy and the Lectures on the History of Political Philosophy. The main contention of the dissertation is that justice as fairness is indebted to both Rousseau and Hegel to a degree insufficiently appreciated by Rawls’s commentators and critics. More generally, Jeffrey’s research interests include the history of political thought, global justice, contemporary liberalism, neorepublicanism and discourse theory.
Jeffrey received his B.A. (Hons.) in Political Science from the University of Western Ontario and his M.A. in Political Science from McGill University. His doctoral research has been supported by the Ontario Graduate Scholarship program and by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.
