Luke Gelinas

Doctoral Fellow, 2010-11

Luke Gelinas works primarily in normative ethics, with additional interests in metaethics, applied ethics, ancient and medieval philosophy, and the philosophy of religion. He is currently writing a dissertation exploring the relation between the virtues of character and right action, in which he attempts to defend the ancient claim that virtue involves a strong connection to acting well, as well as the very non-ancient claim that virtue doesn’t require correct beliefs about the moral realm. He has also recently spent time worrying about infinite choice scenarios, the ethics of environmental ‘nudging’, and the rationality of theistic belief. He holds a B.A. in philosophy from Calvin College, and an M.A. in religion from Yale Divinity School. In his ‘free’ time he enjoys running in circles after his kids.
